What is the job?A rare opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual with enthusiasm for global affairs to become our International Twinning Officer. The successful candidate will drive forward the relationships Bristol City Council has with our seven twin cities around the world, and liaise with local organisations to ensure Bristol citizens of all ages and communities can be involved in our international partnerships. We are looking for someone who has good diplomacy and communication skills, working in a large organisation as well as with the community, and most of all a passion for all things international.What will I be doing?You will be based within the International Affairs team which provides strategic and practical support to the Mayor, Councillors and council colleagues on international work. You will be regularly liaising with contacts in the local authorities in the seven twin cities, as well as with the twin city associations in Bristol. You will be supporting the delivery of our international strategy 'Bristol Global City' through twinning activities that vary across culture, education and business sectors. You will be designing and leading visits into Bristol and abroad that further our twin city links, and supporting the development of local projects which involve eg young people in twin city activity. Projects range across business, tradeYou will be writing briefings, providing information and insights, and exploring new areas of collaboration.
What do I need to have?You will have an interest in, and experience of, working internationally for example abroad or with partners around the world. Strong cross-cultural communication skills are essential to this role and you will be able to work with senior stakeholders in the UK and abroad, and have experience of developing and nurturing effective partnerships at local, national and international levels. Fundraising experience, and experience of managing volunteers is needed to undertake this role, and you will be someone who is able to work without supervision and within a team. You will be able to develop and manage projects and activities that support twinning objectives, in partnership with others.
