A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic events trainee officer to join our busy City Events and Festivals Team, this team sits within Culture at Bristol City Council, and helps facilitate and plan over 300 events on council land over the year, working with a variety of activities, events and festival offerings in the city and outskirts.
The roleThis role will provide support services to city events and site permissions staff, taking an active role in admin, responding to enquiries, helping to support social media campaigns, attending and minuting meetings, and supporting current projects and events. Managing the diary for promotional activity and helping the events team working on tenders, procurement, and stakeholder management.
What will I be doing?
Each day will be different in this fast-paced team, you will get to see behind the scenes of the busy events diary in Bristol and learn how events transform from a simple discussion with our City Events Team. You will learn the processes and legislation that events must adhere to in order to be safe and compliant. You will learn about funding and work with the arts team on our cultural investment programme. You will learn about the work the city events team does with stakeholders, residents and businesses and work along side the parks and harbourside teams to help find suitable locations for events in Bristol. You may be required to sometimes work evening and weekends on site at events.
What do I need to have?
You will have a good understanding of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent, a willingness to learn new digital applications and tools. A willingness to learn health and safety policies and some knowledge or experience of attending, working on or being involved with cultural activities, events or festivals. You will have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in a written format to establish excellent working relationships with colleagues and customers.
Where could this role lead?
This post will provide an all-round range of event management skills, working in a busy and multi-tasking environment. You will gain an understanding of the paperwork process for giving events permission to happen on council land. It will provide real experience that will increase chances of interview and employment in the festivals and events sectors, and transferable skills which are highly desirable in the wider cultural and commercial sectors. You will be working alongside stakeholders and local event organisers which can help you build up a good network of contacts and future jobs.
Applying for an apprenticeship
To apply for an adult apprenticeship, you must be aged 18 years or over, at the start of employment with qualifications in English and Maths. If you do not have these, then you must be prepared to study for the Function Skills Level 2 in both subjects alongside your apprenticeship.
