Our Neighbourhood Enforcement Team deals with a broad range of important matters which includes tackling noise and other forms of nuisance, ensuring that Bristol’s licensed premises run smoothly, its highways remain free of obstructions, and that robust and timely action is taken to address environmental crime.
We are looking for someone to join the team who is passionate about making a difference, and who has the confidence to deliver actions designed to tackle the diverse range of issues that Bristol experiences. Although your background may not be in enforcement, we are keen to hear from you if you feel you can demonstrate the relevant skills and are passionate about the role.
As a Neighbourhood Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for investigating problems and for using a suite of enforcement powers and tools to find solutions to them. To do so successfully you will need to understand and apply relevant legislation and be able to navigate potentially confrontational and challenging circumstances and conversations.

Please note that the role will sometimes involve working early mornings, evenings, and some weekends, and you will be required to work a minimum of 60 hours a year out of hours with late nights on Friday and Saturday (approximately eight weekends a year) to conduct noise assessments and licensed premise visits.
The Neighbourhood Enforcement Team works closely with many other council services such as highways, housing, licensing, Clean Streets, and more, as well as residents, resident groups, police, business, and the council’s environment enforcement contractor. You will have plenty of opportunity for shadowing colleagues, for learning and development, and will be part of a supportive and high performing team.
