An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Social Worker to join the 16+ children in care team. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our growing service, who is committed to supporting young people in times of transition to achieve their best. This is an exciting time to join the 16+ service as we are growing and developing our offer to young people, with a focus on participation, preparing to leave care, network building and independence training.
As a social worker in the 16+ team you will be passionate about working with older teenagers and be able to quickly build rapport and relationships with a young person and their network. Young people in our team have often come into care as older children or may present with more complex needs. Your role will be to lead the pathway planning, alongside a personal adviser and complete an assessment of need and co-ordinate and oversee a multi-agency plan to support the transition as the young person becomes a care leaver. Social workers in this team have excellent knowledge of post 18 housing options, post 18 work and learning opportunities and the benefit system.
Social workers will work with children in care and need to be confident in undertaking assessment of needs, writing reports and plans for young people. The role requires a high level of direct work with young people and applicants should be passionate, creative, and aspirational in their work with young people. Our work can be reactive and fast paced and you will need to be trauma informed and able to work on your own and have the skills to challenge constructively. Mostly our young people live in and around Bristol but some live further afield, so you may need to travel. We have pool cars for you to use. In Through Care we recognise the importance of the whole network in building security and safety for our care leavers ensuring that they understand their life story and journey into and through care. Our practice is underpinned by signs of safety and systemic practice, and we encourage workers to be reflective in their approach.
This role sits within the wider Through Care Service that supports children and young people aged 0-25 and their families, through their journey in care and as care leavers. There are 11 teams, seven dedicated to supporting children in care, three supporting care leavers and two specialist teams one for unaccompanied young people and the 16+ children in care team. We are based at B Bond in an open plan office overlooking the river and Ashton Court. We have high aspirations for our children and young people and are committed to providing services to achieve the best possible outcomes.
