Full Time, Permanent
This is a pivotal time to promote equality and inclusion in Bristol. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Equality Officer to join our Equality and Inclusion Team at Bristol City Council to support the delivery of a number of key equality and inclusion projects. The successful applicant will join a diverse and ambitious team and organisation that is striving to become an exemplar organisation in the field of Equality and Inclusion.
What will I be doing?
You’ll play a major role in promoting equality and inclusion across Council services and beyond. You will help ensure everyone delivering Council services is competent to manage equality and inclusion issues and can contribute to the building of inclusive communities and work environments.
You’ll be part of a team that promotes equality of opportunity, works to eliminate discrimination, and fosters inclusive relations by taking an active role in developing and implementing relevant policies and strategies. You will support relevant quality standards and monitoring arrangements including reviewing equality action plans and impact assessments; providing briefings and training and advising teams on improving performance.
You will facilitate communities of interest to liaise with the Council regarding equitable and responsive services and to address emerging issues, as well as facilitating external partners to achieve joint equality objectives and deliver against milestones in a timely fashion.
What do I need to have?
You’ll hold a relevant qualification or equivalent experience, and show expertise in improving equality and diversity practice, developing frameworks and managing delivery of projects, workplans and events.
You’ll have a working knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty, and a good understanding of our local equality and diversity environment and needs of people on the basis of their protected characteristics within the city and region.
We are keen to add to our understanding of disability equity so any experience or expertise in this area would be desirable.
We’re also looking for someone with great communication skills who can facilitate, influence and negotiate with a diverse range of people and organisations. You’ll be confident co-ordinating partnership work; leading public consultations and engagement; designing and producing briefings and deliver training; and undertaking research, evaluate findings and sharing recommendations.
